This movement starts NOW.

Where is our subculture? What culturally defines our generation? What sets us apart? We have horribly mass produced clothing led by massive fashion houses with no concept of what real people can afford or want to wear. Where is our music? Bland chart successes that overtly manufacture to reach their maximum audience. What about political decisions made on behalf of us by the rich few who have  had to live off such limited means. Are we going to sit down quietly and swallow this mundanity which is offered to us? What are we waiting for? You need permission? I'm giving you permission, what do you want to do? Make a film? Form a fashion label? Write a play? Start your own business? Band? Movement? What is it, what moves you? Yeah we all need to pay our rent and feed ourselves but bigger than that we need to satisfy ourselves by creating. Creating something for us, a sound, look, image, brand, whatever?! The time is now and we have the freedom. We have the power of the Internet and more knowledge available than ever before. You are not alone, the current economic climate is dissatisfying more and more of us. We are all the result of beatniks, hippies, punks and ravers. A hundred different subcultures have gone before us and we can encapulate and exploit every one of them for inspirational means. I want to hear from you, are you a musician, designer, photographer, writer, actor, choreographer, singer, artist, visionary? Let's join together and coin this movement, lets support, write about, be inspired by and collaborate. Together we have the means to do this. What's your latest idea? Need a creative forum? To meet more artists like yourself?

We don't just want you to 'like' what we are doing on Facebook, we want to hear about you and your projects! Act and create NOW.

Lets Go Go.

Photo: Fosse Chelsea!

If you often read this blog then you know I have a major thing for the 60's, the music, the style, I adore that sixties vibe. These pics were taken yesterday for a potential project in the pipeline, Styled by Alanna, Laura and I and Photographed by Alanna, although though these were just behind the scenes shots. I think you will agree that these are a great homage to some stylistic qualities of the period. I just love them, particularly the rug!!!

If your not at the Great Escape tonight (the Brighton music festival) but are instead staying in, as I am with a cold! Then check out this modern art documentary for some reminders of the key modern artists and also some great 60's footage. Enjoy.

Get Cape, Wear Cape, POSE.

Today Alanna and I worked on a shoot, these amazing capes are the mastermind of the gorgeous Laura who is modelling here, she styled, Alanna photographed and I assisted. It's so fun to collaborate and be part of someone else's vision. And boy does Laura have an incredible vision, a future style icon, check out her capes in the flesh at Snoopers Attic. P.S these are not even the proper shots, these were just me pissing about!

Norman Parkinson

For some reason the last through days I have rocked dangerously between a prim 1940's look, inspired by Miss Marple and her glamorous ladies which I watched on Saturday (lol) and a 1960's air hostess kind of vibe. All looks have included hats.

Anyway as I while away my week in a flurry of slightly odd vintage outfits, here is a documentary about one of the most influential fashion photographers of the last century, his career spanning over fifty years. As well as some very insightful interviews, this programme has A LOT of juicy vintage pictures from 30's fashion upwards. Amazing and a must see.

Here is a few of his images to get you in the mood!

Above Parr

Following on from my photography theme this week, I wanted to share one of my favourite collections. Anyone who has ever studied Photography should recognise the name Martin Parr, even if you have never picked up a camera, you should know this name. Martin Parr is a photographer, film-maker, ex-train spotter and collector. He has some of the most obscure personal collections, ranging from dinner trays, stamps, post cards, plates and Spice Girls memorabilia.

'The Last Resort' by Martin Parr was taken during 1983 through to 1985 in New Brighton, Liverpool. Parr was very interested in Thatcher Britain and the results that became of the conservative party at the time. His photographs marked a turning point in photography from monochrome black and white, to bright, vibrant photographs, saturated with colour. The contrast between the vivid colours and the bleak subjects with-in his photo's only highlighted the ugly truth that Thatcher was so eager to ignore, with Parr himself calling them 'anti-postcard pictures.'

Fancy a run through a Meadow?

The sun is out people!!!!!!!!!!!! breaking news right, in most places around the country it is now above freezing woop, woop! anyway here is my lame attempts to photography todays outfit as well as a massive glimpse at my shop like bedroom haha. A homemade dress, out of sixties fabric, Primark tights, vintage fifties scarf as headband, and a few studded rings for good measure. So all of you that are a little hung-over this morning I implore you, get out for a walk and if you cant face the light then stay in and make something amazing, and please, post the pictures on fb. well I'm resisting the urge to fun through meadows in my floral dress and instead I am off to rehearsals, but here is some meadow running music anyway.

Here comes the sun.............

Tim Walker

Tim Walker is a very well respected fashion/portrait photographer. I have been a huge fan of the his for God knows how long. The first time I saw one of his works was the in the first issue of vogue I ever bought about 7/8 years ago, and still the magic and beauty he captures makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. They take you somewhere you have never been, but still you feel like you have seen this place before. He captures beautiful wonderland like dreams, a secret garden that's a stones throw away.

I was unfortunate that I was not able to see the exhibit in Somerset House, London during the Christmas period, but as spring is finally peeping its shy face through the window, I thought id share just a handful of Tim Walkers creations (and these aren't even his best, for that you have get his gorgeous books.)
